About Longshots
A football quiz should reward real knowledge. That means questions that are true, answers that are complete, and no made-up trivia. Here is how Longshots is built.
What Longshots is
Longshots is a free daily football quiz with a rarity mechanic. Every question asks you to name something true — a club, a player, a manager, a country, a stadium. Correct answers are grouped into five rarity tiers, and the rarer your answer, the further from goal you strike. It is a knowledge game with a highlight reel attached: seven questions, 25 seconds each, and a 3D shot that travels the actual distance your answer earned.
The daily round is the same for everyone and resets at 00:00 UTC. Longshots Unlimited is the endless version: three lives, a streak multiplier and a full question bank. You can read the full rules on the how to play page.
How questions are researched
Every question is built around a verifiable list: competition winners, final scorers, managers, records, transfers, stadium histories. Writers work from public sources such as Wikipedia list pages, official competition and club sites, RSSSF and 11v11, then build the answer sheet from those records.
Each sheet is tiered by rarity relative to that question: household names at the tap-in end, historic or obscure-but-valid names at the halfway line and keeper’s goal end. A sourced fact is attached to every question, and archive pages link to the sources used. We do not invent players, clubs, records or “fun facts”.
No list is perfect. If you believe a valid answer is missing from a sheet, that is a content bug rather than a trick, and it should be fixed rather than punished. The same applies to any fact that looks wrong: the source links are there to be checked.
How scoring and rarity work
Longshots uses deterministic tiers rather than a live popularity poll. That keeps the game fair: the same answer means the same tier for every player, and the daily round cannot be distorted by a sudden trend. The trade-off is that rarity is editorial rather than statistical, so tiers are calibrated against football knowledge levels — casual, engaged, obsessive, historian.
What we do not do
- No accounts, no email and no social login.
- No ad tech, no tracking pixels, no analytics profiles.
- No fake player counts, no invented leaderboards, no fabricated review scores.
- No affiliation with any club, league, federation or governing body. Club and competition names are used descriptively.
Privacy
Your progress and best runs are stored in your browser’s local storage. They never leave your device. Read the privacy page for the full detail.
Built on the web
Longshots is a static site served from Cloudflare’s edge, with the question bank stored as static assets so new match days can be switched in without a database. The game runs entirely in your browser. No backend, no runtime API, no per-request cost.
